Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management Research organized a guest lecture on “How to think and plan your career” for its PGDM students. Director-GHSIMR, Professor Prithvi Yadav welcomed the guest Speaker Mr. Amit Agnihotri. He also informed that Mr. Amit Agnihotri has over 10 years of entrepreneurial experience of successfully raising two companies, which are widely quoted in national and international business press, such as Financial Times-London, Le Monde-Paris, Economic Times and several others.
In this seminar on career planning for MBA students the main message that was passed on to the students was to follow their passion and their dream and not let other criteria like money or branding of a company decide what company they should be joining because career decision is a very critical decision. It is easier said than done because students don’t know what their passion is! So to find out about their passion, Mr. Amit Agnihotri, Chairman – MBAUniverse.com provided the students with a three step formula. The 1st step is to “Know Thyself”. For this, the students need to do deep introspection and find out what drives them, what are their strengths and weaknesses and they need to do goal-setting. The 2nd step is to find out the “Ideal job that matches their passion. And finally, the 3rd step is to “Take the plunge”. That means that irrespective of peer and family pressure, the students need to go for that job without letting money, company name etc. influence their career decision.
The result may not be as fruitful in the short term, but in the long run, it will definitely be more fulfilling and rewarding, providing job satisfaction and the opportunity to be successful in their respective areas. Mr. Amit quoted his example of choosing a job that offered one-third the remuneration over another job offer that he had, at the time of his campus placements. Prof. Devendra Jaiswal added that the program was attended by all students and faculty.
